A living piece of the World Tree created at the moment of its destruction, when the Red Warden cuts the ancient tree down. Mokuzai inherits the Tree's memories and accumulated knowledge without inheriting the lived experience that gave those memories context. Only weeks old when he enters the story, he leaves a sapling behind for the Tree's eventual renewal and wanders beyond the Verdant Shard, driven by curiosity until his path crosses Amaya's and the two begin traveling together.
