They did not stop until Falkreath's lights appeared through the trees.
Tsukihana remained awake in the inn long after Zaria treated her wounds. Mei's words repeated with the pulse in her ribs.
He fought much better.
Her master had not died in a nameless attack. The masked killers who destroyed the school had survived. They had crossed into Skyrim. They knew she carried the final blade of Getsumeiryū.
At the ruined mine, Mei stepped from beneath collapsed timber and adjusted the cracked edge of her fox mask. Han climbed out beside her, brushing soot from his coat.
"Unexpected," Mei said.
"Temporary," Han replied.
He looked toward the eastern forest where Tsukihana had vanished.
"She cannot escape forever."
Mei touched the wound frozen beneath her clothing and smiled.
Han's voice lost every trace of humor. "The Seven Calamities will raze Skyrim to the ground until she and her sword have fallen."
Far away, Tsukihana sat with her katana across her knees.
The past had found her.
This time, she would not survive it by running.
