ACT VI · Chapter 27
THE THRONE BEYOND TIME
The First Light
The battle did not remain in one place.
Ren'ō's first strike broke the threshold of the Throne and scattered its defenders across different centuries. Izanara anchored the Astra Noctis to the present while divine soldiers attacked from futures that had not yet occurred.
Gold filled the corridor.
Ren'ō moved with the discipline of the soldier he had been and the force of the being the Void had made. He never wasted motion. A shoulder turned aside a blade. Two fingers severed a divine command. A palm strike returned a constellation-beast to the stars from which it had been assembled.
He could have erased the soldiers.
He freed them instead.
Each red geometric pupil shattered into ordinary color as the War God's control left their minds. Some fled. Some collapsed. Some turned their weapons against the Throne.
The War God waited at the center.
He sat on a seat built from the compressed remains of dead worlds. Long black and white hair moved around him in a wind generated by collapsing timelines. His pupils rotated in perfect red patterns.
"You arrive wearing mercy as armor," he said.
Ren'ō stepped over the broken threshold. "It has held up better than arrogance."
The War God rose.
He looked unchanged from La-Sol 7.
Ren'ō hated him for that.
"You have grown," the god said. "The mortal architecture remains intact. Impressive."
"Laana was good at her job."
"The scientist. Yes. She was almost worth preserving."
The Throne cracked beneath Ren'ō's feet.
Izanara felt the Divine Remnant surge and called his name.
He heard her.
That was the difference between this moment and the Void.
Ren'ō exhaled.
"Do not speak about her again."
The War God smiled. "Or what?"
Ren'ō vanished.
Their fists met in the space between seconds.
The Throne detonated outward.
Across the multiverse, every star dimmed.
The shock reached the connected worlds as a pressure behind the eyes. On Meridia, the broken bell rang without being touched. The refugee moons shifted in their orbits. Every person feeding power into the celestial network felt the War God notice them.
Ren'ō felt their fear. He also felt them remain. No one severed the connection. No one withdrew the light they had freely given.
The War God drifted out of the wreckage with his smile gone. Red geometry opened behind him like a wound across time.
"You taught them disobedience," he said.
Ren'ō raised his hands. Golden fire gathered around his knuckles.
"No," he answered. "I reminded them it was theirs."
