BROTH BENEATH NEON RAIN

The First Light

BROTH BENEATH NEON RAIN

Weeks later, the noodle vendor discovered a small golden symbol burned into the corner of her rooftop sign.

It resembled a sun opening inside a circle.

She tried to remove it. The mark returned the next morning.

Customers began claiming the stall's food made old grief easier to carry. Mercenaries lowered their voices there. Corporate soldiers forgot orders long enough to taste what they were eating. Once, during a citywide blackout, the sign continued glowing.

The vendor called it good advertising.

Far above Night City, Ren'ō and Izanara crossed a fracture into another world.

He carried every memory.

He carried every power.

He carried the Void, La-Sol 7, Laana's final words, and the weight of a multiverse he had chosen to return.

He also carried two sealed bowls of ramen beneath one arm.

Izanara looked at them. "Those will be cold by the time we arrive."

Ren'ō opened a doorway through space.

"Then we arrive sooner."

They stepped into the stars.

Behind them, dawn reached the rooftop.

This time, no god decided what it meant.
